Child Aid brings the developed and the developing world together to create change with permanency. We work to make our Latin American partners self-sustaining so your support will have an impact for years to come.
Battling Illiteracy
Child Aid is focusing on attacking the staggering illiteracy in rural indigenous Guatemala. Illiteracy and lack of education have kept this largely Mayan population trapped in a never-ending world of brutal poverty and discrimination.
Our mission is to find those individuals in Guatemala who have the type of drive and vision organizations in the US would seek out in leaders. We then provide these individuals or groups with the resources, training and organizational skills that they need to expand their capacity and become sustainable institutions.
Lasting Impact
When organizations focus on projects and not people, once the “gringo” is gone, the projects generally fall apart. In contrast, when the local people are trained, given resources and take ownership, true community change happens.
Such an approach takes patience and commitment but the results are powerful and lasting.
We are not interested in the flavor of the month but in real and lasting change and impact. We owe nothing less to our donors and supporters and to our partners in Latin America.
