Organize a Group Work Trip
If you are interested in gathering a group of friends or colleagues to support our work in Guatemala, we’d like to talk with you. Child Aid hosts groups of 10 or more volunteers for weeklong work trips that support our partner communities. By organizing or joining a work team, you help make vital physical improvements to schools and libraries. In addition, a portion of your program fee will help fund a full year of literacy work in the community where you volunteer. Teams work in remote villages alongside local people on simple but vital projects: repairs, painting, shelf building, or organizational work in rural libraries. To find out the cost structure of group trips and how to organize them, please contact us by email or call 503-223-3008.
Volunteer in Portland, Oregon
Volunteering in our Portland office helps us to keep our overhead low so we can direct more resources to our community-based literacy work. We need periodic help with administrative support and mailings. It’s not rocket science, but it’s a fun way to get to know the staff and make a difference. To join our volunteer roster and learn about upcoming opportunities, please contact us by email or call our Portland office at 503-223-3008.
Be a Volunteer Fundraiser
Each year Child Aid supporters take the initiative to create and host their own fundraisers to support our work. Some sponsor a particular village, while others support a key aspect of our program, such as book shipping or teacher training. Our volunteer fundraisers have held garage sales, hosted house parties and brunches, organized craft sales and held school read-a-thons. Others have started Facebook giving campaigns or launched matching gift campaigns to leverage more from their own donations. The possibilities are endless. We’d love to hear your ideas, share some of our own, and give you the support you need to get started. Email us or give us a call.
