Day 6: San Antonio Ilotenango

Our Photo Journal for Day 6

Day 6 took us to the rural mountain town of San Antonio Ilotenango. Here we visited with the students at Aldea Chocoja school, who made us feel so very welcome.

A grand Parade

To start off the day, students walked through the town, inviting members of the community to join in the celebration. Their festive dress and balloons made it clear that this was a celebration not to be missed!

a special delivery

One lucky student was selected to hand deliver the book to the school. Riding his bike, with the book tucked safely in his satchel, he biked along the route, carrying his very special cargo.

Our favorite books

A formal stage was set up at the school for the festivities. As the book arrived, staff was there to receive it and share the importance of its arrival. As festivities got underway students were welcomed onto the stage to share their favorite books, their love of reading and welcoming this new book to their collection. The book was then passed around, so that each student could see it for themselves.

LET’S DANCE

Once the official ceremony was done, it was time to dance. Students, teachers and trainers all got into the action. For the students it was fun to see the teachers cut loose and join in!

It’s coloring time!

Students young and old all joined in on the coloring. Large posters were a collaborative effort, while smaller illustrations were colored with care by students.

a wall to remember

Many proud artists contributed to this art wall. It featured Millie, and so many other characters that have stayed with students long after storytime.

Thanks for the memories!

It was a day of sharing stories, old and new. A day of dancing and coloring. A day to remember. And for that we say, thank you!

Wait! There’s more…

We hope you enjoyed this recap of day 6, but there is so much more to explore… seven more days of celebration to be specific! Check out another stop on the tour…
