Training Teachers
Practical Approaches for New Ways of Teaching
Child Aid teacher training workshops help teachers improve their knowledge and skills through practical, hands-on professional development.
Alongside peers, teachers attend two teacher training workshops per year. The workshops introduce and reinforce a variety of new classroom tools and techniques. Educators also reflect on instructional practices, sharing personal experiences with fellow teachers and establishing a positive context for individual coaching.
Our workshops make the process of learning fun for teachers. We incorporate hands-on activities that get teachers out of their chairs and actively learning — just like their students! Child Aid trainers model best practices in workshops, giving educators an opportunity to first experience the activities as learners.
Teachers tell us our methods are valuable and have impact in their classrooms. Teachers report students are more enthusiastic readers and understand better what they’ve read. Plus, kids participate more in classroom activities and exhibit improved skills, especially vocabulary, writing and an ability to ask questions and express ideas.
“In our traditional training, they tell us what to do but they don’t show us how. Child Aid gives us a step-by-step guide to have successful results. Child Aid shows us how to work with students, and that’s the difference.”

We Change How Teachers Teach
Child Aid’s intensive, three-year literacy program provides sustained professional development for elementary school teachers in their schools and classrooms. Our program stresses basic comprehension and critical thinking skills that propel children into becoming independent readers and learners.
