The Club de Ninãs is one of Child Aid’s newest endeavors. The Program, originally called “Guatemalan Girls: The Value of our Voices,” is designed to keep girls in school, by providing a safe space for girls in the 4th, 5th and 6th grades to find their voices. Teachers provide special reading material and open dialogs around a wide variety of girls topics.

“I wish I could tell you that indigenous girls in Guatemala are better off than ever. Instead, the opposite is true. Thousands of young girls are dropping out of school to become mothers, while many more are leaving elementary school to support their families.

Child Aid Co-CEO
We use a “book club” format for the program. Girls meet weekly to read together, talk about issues and together practice critical thinking and speaking with confidence.
Each year Child Aid staff selects special books for the Clubs. Books are specifically chosen to focus discussion on issues related to our club’s goals. Books feature stories of women who overcame obstacles to achieve, issues in reproductive health and decision making, leadership skills and challenges, goal setting, finding your voices, and the high value of continuing your education.
