Day 3: San Cristóbal

Our Photo Journal for Day 3

Our third stop brought the book to the town of San Cristóbal, where we joined the students for a reading festival, playing games and enjoying the magic of reading.

our character comes to life

San Cristóbal is in the Department of Totonicapán. For today’s events the staff at Chirijcajá school brought our Millie character to life for the students. One lucky staff member dressed up as Millie and entered the courtyard with the book in hand.

the build-up to 1,000,000

Millie was our master of ceremonies for the day, with the character presenting the book and reading it aloud to students. As the numbers in the book multiplied, so did the numbers on the stage, with students building up to the magical 1,000,000!

Reading festival

Our visit aligned with the school’s reading festival – a celebration of all that students had learned over the school year. The festival featured a series of activity stations where they could play games, participate in reading and writing challenges, and most importantly…have fun!

From letter finds to word searches

It was so much fun seeing students run from station to station, challenging themselves and playfully competing against their peers.

Coloring

Like at previous stops on our book tour, students brought Mark and Millie to life by coloring their illustrations – adding their own flare to the characters of this book.

Snacktime

All those activities can make a kid hungry. Well, the teachers thought of that. As the activities wound down, kids enjoyed jello cups, topped with whipped cream of course! It was a great way to say…

gracias child aid

…Gracias Child Aid – thank you for the books, and so much more. And while the kids held up signs saying thank you, we couldn’t help but want to thank them for making this book tour visit so memorable!

And that’s a wrap

What a great visit we had with Chirijcajá school!

Wait! There’s more…

We hope you enjoyed this recap of day 3, but there is so much more to explore… seven more days of celebration to be specific! Check out another stop on the tour…
